Today, 10th November 2011 i.e Thursday is the holy occasion of Gurpurab or Guru Nanak Jayanti or Guru Nanak Birthday, is the birthday of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak, and one of the most sacred festivals in Sikhism.The 1469 AD-born Guru turns 542 years on November 10, likewise his meaningful teachings and useful lessons pertaining to life and spirituality he remains alive in the hearts of the Sikhs and humans across the world from whom he is the best Guru ever, no one can ever replace him. Sikhs across the globe commemorate the holy day with jaloos and processions, langar and kirtan programmes, and most famous Guru-ka-langar which Guru Nanak had initiated. During nights (basically after sunset), Sikhs light up their homes, and burst the crackers to celebrate this grand and holy occasion. Happy Gurpurab!
